💰When buying in bulk actually costs you more

Hi there,

I used to think buying in bulk was always the smart move.
Lower price. Fewer trips to the store. More “value.”

But I’ve noticed something about myself recently. When I buy things in bulk, I use more of them.

Sunscreen? I apply it like I’m sponsored.
Toilet paper? Gone faster than usual.
Cleanser, toiletries, even protein bars. When I have more, I reach for them more.

Part of it is psychological. I know I have extra.
And part of it is just how I’m wired. I like finishing things. I like decluttering. I want to use it up so I can open the next one and clear the space.

So instead of saving money, I sometimes end up spending more, just spread out over time.

Even food works this way. If I have a box full of protein bars, I’ll grab one without thinking… even when I’d rather make something else. More supply quietly leads to more consumption.

That’s why I’ve started being way more intentional.
For some items, I’m skipping bulk altogether. Or I’m buying smaller quantities, even if the unit price is higher.

Less clutter.
Less mindless overuse.
More control.

Bulk buying isn’t bad, it just isn’t always smart. If you’re someone who likes to “use things up” or declutter like me, it can quietly work against you.

The lesson? Buy with awareness, not just discounts.
