đź’°The car mistake that costs people

Hi there,

A friend once asked me which car brands are actually worth buying.

Not the flashiest. Not the coolest. Just the ones that won’t drain your wallet.

So I started looking into reliability reports, maintenance data, and long-term ownership costs. And the easiest way to think about it is through a tier ranking system.

Here’s how some of the major brands stack up.

F Tier (Avoid)
Chevrolet, GMC, Jeep, Chrysler, and Dodge consistently rank low in reliability reports outside of a few specific models.

D Tier (Risky)
Hyundai and Kia have grown fast, but still deal with a lot of engine recalls. Ford also lands here outside of trucks. Nissan is improving, but reliability past higher mileage can still be unpredictable.

C Tier (Average)
BMW. Surprisingly improving thanks to their newer engines, but maintenance costs can still be high.

B Tier (Good but not perfect)
Subaru. Great safety and great in tough conditions, but their CVT transmission is often the weak spot.

A Tier (Very strong)
Honda. Legendary engines. Reliable, efficient, and mechanics rarely see them for major issues.

S Tier (Top reliability)
Toyota and Lexus sit comfortably here. They keep their engineering simple and refine it year after year. It may not always be exciting, but it works. Mazda also belongs here right now. Quietly, one of the most reliable brands on the road.

But here’s the bigger lesson. If you’re still building wealth, don’t rush into expensive cars at all. Cars start depreciating the moment you drive them off the dealership lot. The smartest move for most people is buying reliable, second-hand vehicles that have already taken the biggest depreciation hit.

And before you buy anything, do one more thing that can save you hundreds every year. Compare insurance offers. Different companies price drivers very differently, and taking a few minutes to compare offers can dramatically lower your total cost of owning the car.

After all, the goal isn’t just owning a car. It’s owning one that doesn’t quietly drain your wealth.
