💰It’s never too late to start

Hi there,
I hear this all the time: “I’m in my 50s… isn’t it too late to start investing?”
It’s not.
I have multiple millions invested in the market, and right now I’m helping my own parents, who are also in their 50s, get started. The window is smaller than if you’d started at 25, sure. But that doesn’t mean it’s closed.
Here’s what actually matters, and how to keep it simple.
Step 1: Open the right account.
Pick a trusted broker like Vanguard, Fidelity, or Schwab. You can’t go wrong with any of them. Open a Roth IRA. It takes minutes. Fill out some basic info, and you’re in.
Here’s the upside most people don’t realize: once you’re over 50, the IRS lets you do catch-up contributions. For 2026, that means you can invest up to $8,600 a year, compared to $7,500 if you’re younger.
Step 2: Invest broadly, not cleverly.
This is not the phase of life to chase hot stocks, meme trades, or crypto. Even though I personally invest in crypto, it’s volatile and stressful. In your 50s, you don’t need that.
Keep it boring:
- VTI for the total U.S. stock market
- VXUS for international exposure
U.S. stocks drive growth. International stocks add diversification. You don’t need anything more complicated than that.
Step 3: Be aggressive with consistency.
Here’s where things get real.
If you invest $2,000 a month for the next 15 years, you’re not just saving money, you’re compounding it. Instead of having about $360,000 sitting in cash, you could end up with roughly $762,000 invested.
Because you’re starting later, consistency matters more than perfection. The way you catch up is by investing as much as you reasonably can, every single month, and letting time do its job.
This doesn’t require brilliance. It requires action.
I hope this helps clear the fog. If you’ve been sitting on the sidelines thinking you missed your chance, you didn’t. You just need a plan that fits where you are now.
