💰How to Book Free First-Class Flights

Hi there,

This past week, I dropped my mom off at the airport for her free first-class flight to India. How do you score a $6,000 airplane ticket for free, you ask? Let me show you.

A couple months ago, our newsletter spoke about how exactly I “bought” these tickets and how you can do it too. My go-to site is seat.aero, a website that helps you discover the best flights for your credit card points, allowing you to compare options and book them with ease.

But before you start booking flights, you have to rack up some points. I'd say you want to have at least like 100,000 points, and then you can start looking for some really good overseas flights. This may sound like a big number but trust me, it’s easier than it looks.

Here are some golden credit card rules to follow so you can achieve this without getting into debt:

  1. Pick a card that suits your lifestyle whether that is a travel-focused card or a dining-heavy card.
  2. Charge every expense you can afford to your credit card.
  3. Pay off your balance in full each month (keep the utilization under 10% if you plan to hold a balance)
  4. Keep track of spending and set up alerts.
  5. Know your card’s terms to avoid fees and surprises.

If you follow these tips, you will have racked up thousands of points in no time and be able to purchase, not just flight tickets, but many other goods for free!

To get started, pick from some of our favorite credit cards here. Happy shopping!
