Hi there,

As someone who immigrated young and became a self-made millionaire in my 20s, I didn’t grow up with money, so every dollar had a job. Throughout my money journey, that mindset never left me.

Over the years, the biggest lesson I learned is this: it isn’t about extreme budgeting or saying no to everything. It’s about raising your standards and cutting the stuff that quietly holds you back.

So here are 15 things I believe you should stop wasting money on, not because you’re cheap, but because you’re intentional.

1. Flights and hotels (paid in cash)
Learn how to use credit card points and sign-up bonuses. I rarely pay cash for travel anymore.

2. Airline fees
If you fly one airline often, get their card. Free checked bags and early boarding add up fast.

3. Gambling as “income”
If it’s entertainment, fine. But never gamble to make money; the odds are designed against you.

4. Brand-new cars
A new car loses about 20% of its value immediately. A lightly used car is the smarter move.

5. Overpriced car insurance
If you haven’t shopped around this year, you’re probably overpaying. I know people who saved hundreds just by switching. Compare offers here.

6. Eating out every day
I’m a millionaire, and I don’t do this. If you’re broke, this habit will keep you that way.

7. Food delivery apps
You’re paying extra in fees and higher menu prices. Convenience has a premium.

8. Extended warranties
Most aren’t worth it. Consumer research backs this up.

9. A gym membership you don’t use
If you can’t remember your last workout, cancel it. Save your money and your energy.

10. Late fees, penalties, and extra interest
This isn’t bad luck, it’s neglect. Set reminders. Automate payments. Care a little more.

11. Cable
It’s 2026. Streaming services are cheaper and more flexible.

12. Expedited shipping
It adds up quickly. (High earners can buy time, most people should buy patience.)

13. “Sales” you didn’t plan for
If something is $100 and 50% off, you didn’t save $50, you spent $50.

14. Bottled water
Get a reusable bottle. It’s cheaper and better for you.

15. Daily coffee (mindlessly)
I’m not saying never, just be intentional. If you want to build wealth faster, delayed gratification helps. And a Keurig pays for itself quickly.

None of this is about deprivation. It’s about alignment.

When I stopped leaking money on things that didn’t matter, I was able to invest, build ownership, and buy real freedom.

If you want to start 2026 differently, start here: cut one thing, redirect that money, and let it compound. Small decisions, made consistently, change everything.
